Sending, logs & suppression

How a Marketing campaign is sent in batches, paused and resumed, what is retried and what is never resent, and how logs, CSV export, the suppression list and manual sends work.

Sending a campaign

Click Send on a campaign and confirm. Marketing then:

  1. Fixes the recipient list. A segment with nobody in it ends the campaign as failed, with No recipients found for selected segment.
  2. Sends 25 recipients per batch while the page is open. SMS and WhatsApp show a progress window; you can choose Hide and continue in background.
  3. Carries on in the background through Booknetic’s cron if you leave the page. Each run sends one batch per campaign, at most once a minute per channel.

A campaign moves through draft → queued → sending → completed. It ends as completed if at least one message went out, and failed otherwise.

Pause, resume, run now

  • Pause stops a queued or sending campaign after the current batch. While it is paused, there is no Send button.
  • Resume puts it back in the queue. The next cron run continues where it stopped, or click Run now.
  • A completed campaign can’t be sent again. Duplicate it instead.

No recipient is sent the same campaign twice. Every message gets a delivery key before the provider is called, and an interrupted, paused or resumed campaign only picks up the recipients that are still waiting.

What is retried — and what never is

What happenedWhat Marketing does
The provider said slow down (HTTP 429)Retries up to 3 attempts in total: after 2 minutes, then after 4
The email provider declined before acceptingRetries the same way
The provider rejected the message outrightMarks it failed: The provider permanently rejected the delivery.
No credentials or no credits for the sendMarks it failed: Delivery was rejected before provider submission…
Anything else: a timeout, a server error, no clear answerMarks it unknown and does not retry

Unknown means the message may well have been delivered. Marketing doesn’t try again, because a retry is exactly how one customer gets the same message twice. Check your provider’s own delivery history before you decide to send again. If the server stopped part-way through a send, the recipients it had started on are marked unknown for the same reason.

A message the provider accepted is not proof it reached an inbox or a handset.

Logs and CSV export

Logs on a campaign lists its recipients with Status, Attempts, Error and Sent at, newest first.

Export CSV downloads campaign-<id>-logs.csv with these columns:

email (or phone), status, attempt_count, error_message, sent_at, created_at

The Overview tab totals your campaigns: Total Campaigns, Completed, Total Sent, Total Failed and Total Pending. A campaign’s own Failed column counts both failed and unknown recipients.

The suppression list

Each channel has its own list: email addresses for Email, phone numbers for SMS and WhatsApp. On Booknetic SaaS each tenant has its own lists.

  • Add an entry with an optional Reason (for example “Unsubscribed”). Remove it with Remove.
  • The list is always checked at send time, for campaigns and for manual sends. A suppressed recipient is logged as Suppressed recipient and nothing is sent.
  • It can also be left out of the audience before sending, with the Exclude suppression list filter.

Test sends don’t check the list. They go to the address you type.

Manual send

The last tab (Manual Email, Manual SMS or Manual Template Send) sends one message straight away, without a campaign:

  • Freeform list: type or paste addresses or numbers, separated by spaces, commas or semicolons. Duplicates are merged and invalid entries dropped.
  • Select customers: search your customers by name, email or phone.

The result reads Sent: X, Failed: Y, Suppressed: Z. Manual sends are not written to a campaign log.
